- Find out why the position is open, who had it last and what happened.
- What are the job responsibilities?
- Who would you report to?
- What percentage of the work is in the field?
- What are the realistic chances for advancement within the company?
- What is the growth pattern of the company over the last five years?
- Is there a written job description, may I see it?
- What type of training is available?
INTERVIEW DO'S
- Arrive on time or a little earlier
- Know the exact name and title of the interviewer(s)
- Greet the interviewer with a firm handshake
- Know a good deal about the company before you interview
- Be enthusiastic and responsive
- Maintain good eye contact during the interview
- Maintain good body language - and smile!
- Listen to the interviewer and wait for his/her leads
- Keep answers tight, brief and to the point
- Ask good questions about the job functions and responsibilities
- Dress in a professional manner
- Send a thank you note or email to the interviewer
INTERVIEW DON'TS
- Don't be late for the interview
- Don't pressure the interviewer into making a decision
- Don't ask the interviewer for names of other people you might contact
- Don't chew gum, fidget or move around in your chair
- Don't talk too much and talk yourself out of a job
- Don't create a situation where you keep the interviewer waiting
- Don't introduce negative thoughts or ideas during the interview
- Don't wear too much make-up or use scented cologne or perfume
- Don't inquire about salary or benefits on the initial interview
- Don't contradict the interviewer
- Don't lie - be honest, especially concerning previous salary
